Do you doubt yourself? Do you feel like a fraud? Like you’re going to get found out? Like you don’t belong among the people who have achieved what you want to achieve? Do you think this a reason not to pursue what you want? Do you hold yourself back with these thoughts and feelings? Let me share a little secret with you, even the most accomplished people, perhaps the ones you admire and aspire to be like, have experienced these same insecurities. They may not talk about it openly, but it’s a universal part of the human experience. You’re not alone. Everyone and I mean everyone, me included, experiences this sometimes, to varying degrees when they put themselves in a situation where they have to do things they haven’t done before or that demands growth. A new business, a promotion, any situation where you haven’t yet got experiential, demonstrated evidence that you can do it (even though you can). It’s a normal, appropriate response to doing something you’ve never done before. Even people who have been on the journey for a while still have insecurities and imposter syndrome sometimes, but they don’t see it as a reason to stop and they have often, out of necessity, developed better strategies for meeting it. It’s so normal. What it means is that you’re playing at the right level. You’re playing at a level that is going to grow you and propel you forward. It’s not a sign to stop, it’s an invitation to go for it and learn how to hold yourself through the process. Stop talking yourself out of it because you think you don’t belong, or that it’s not meant for you. You are capable of truly extraordinary things. The clock is ticking. it’s time to go for it.
